ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION - NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR COMMAND
BEAUMONT HAMEL 100 TOUR - 10 DAYS:EnGLAND, FRANCE AND BELGIUM

Picture
Just after dawn on July 1, 1916, over 800 brave young Newfoundlanders advanced from the trenches on the first day of Battle of the Somme. The following day, only 68 of them could stand for roll call. A day which forever marked the Dominion of Newfoundland. On the preserved battlefield now stands the majestic caribou, the emblem of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, in honour of these men who served.

Developed in conjunction with members of the Royal Canadian Legion - Newfoundland & Labrador Command, this tour is perfect for members of the Legion and their families to travel together for the July 1, 2016 100th Anniversary at Beaumont Hamel, be a part of the official remembrance ceremony, and explore other sites of Newfoundland's history in Europe, including the four other caribou monuments in France and Belgium.

With a full-time tour leader, a balance of guided activities and free time to explore on your own, this tour will deliver an exceptional and emotional experience for you.

TOUR DETAILS

Tuesday, June 28 - Thursday, July 7, 2016

Departing St. John's on a direct flight to London, we will arrive early in London and make our way to Northern France via Eurostar through the Chunnel.  The next five days include:
  • Two visits to Beaumont Hamel - one to visit on your own, the other as part of the official ceremony on July 1, 2016
  • Visits to the caribou monuments at Guedecourt, Monchy-le-Preux, Masnieres, and Courtrai
  • Visits the City of Ypres, Belgium and the Menin Gate ceremony and to Vimy Ridge and the City of Arras
The tour then returns to London for three days and nights based in a central hotel, including guided sightseeing, unique visits, and free time and then a return to St. John's.

Each person (or couple) will also receive a copy of Frank Gogos’s new book “The Royal Newfoundland Regiment in the Great War.” A St. John’s native and a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Frank is active with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment’s Advisory Council and the Royal Canadian Legion. He has guided numerous tours to Newfoundland battlefields, memorials and cemeteries in Europe and Gallipoli. This book is an excellent resource in preparing for our tour.
